Re: Strange scan problem
I've seen missing points from close range objects, but never seen similar in other scanners, unless it was somewhat reflective surface from the image it is not, and the lines are very straight, maybe there were some kind of vinyl/tape on the beam, or any residue which could made this result?
So if it is not reflection then i didn't see similar on rtc360 nor blk360 from leica. But we didn't do a much pipe holder scanning, we usualy scan painted walls (buildings). Which is very different.

Re: Strange scan problem
Same here, I've never seen this from any of our Faro scanners starting with the original 120 up through a S350+. It seems like a SDK/firmware bug.

Re: Strange scan problem
I don't believe we've seen this on the 20 plus units of various models and many many thousands of scans we've done over the years.
Do you see these issues inside SCENE at all, or are you doing registration directly in RECAP?
Is this a recent issue or has it been ongoing?
Would you be able to share a sample raw scan or two with me?

Re: Strange scan problem
I do a lot of scans of power plants or chemical plants like the screenshot above. And indoor scans haven't found this problem yet. In the end, it is thought to be a problem occurring under the special conditions mentioned above. I've encountered this problem many times over the past few years, and a very large number of scans on my most recent project have demonstrated this problem. I think this is because most of them are outdoor scans and there are huge backgrounds such as walls and structures.
The registration software used Scene and ReCap for cleaning. Again, this is a problem with raw data.
I have already provided samples to FARO, and FARO acknowledged it as a problem. Company permission is required to make this publicly available.
I am wondering if this problem occurs with FARO or other brands as well. This is because FARO generalizes it as a problem that can occur in any brand scanner and does not provide a solution.
Regards,

Re: Strange scan problem
Do you see the problem in the individual scans in Scene prior to registration or only once exported to Recap? Reason I ask is that if it is the latter it could well be an issue with the RCS export for the version of Scene that you're using. One of the more commonly used SDKs for RCS export that I'm aware of, see https://www.opendesign.com/, did show similar problems on earlier releases and it is an issue that I've raised with the developers at that time. This was also with outdoor data in real world coordinates. Discussion over on the ODA forum is here, https://forum.opendesign.com/showthread ... hlight=rcs Just guesswork and may not be related but it is the closest that I've seen in terms of voxel indexing errors.scottkim wrote: ↑Fri May 28, 2021 4:14 amThe registration software used Scene and ReCap for cleaning. Re: Strange scan problem
I agree it is most definitely a Faro problem, just exploring possible underlying reasons. Not sure if there's anyone from Faro watching this that can chip in with an opinion.

Re: Strange scan problem
I'd like to understand the issue better.scottkim wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 1:27 am We are using the FARO S350 scanner, and sometimes we run into the following problems that we cannot understand in outdoor scanning.
That is, when there is a nearby object to be scanned and a building background behind it, a part of the object to be scanned is cut into irregular shapes and positioned at a far distance instead of the original location. This is made by the scanner, not the registration software.
[...]
Could you provide screenshots from the planar view out of Scene, one time with color and one time with reflectivity of the faulty scan?
Perhaps there is a depth visualisation in Scene planar view as well, so this might be helpful.
Some wild guessing:
Sun light issues, physical influences?
Is your scanner software up to date?

Re: Strange scan problem
Hello
I suggest you to verify the raw data with the "FARO Scan Verification Tool".
Once I had a problem that makes me thought the scanner was broken but not. For some unknown reason the data from the on line registration was fault and the scan appeared with some minor flaws.
Once the data was correctly retrieved from de sd-card, the problem disappears.

Re: Strange scan problem
I spoke to soon. We just saw this same issue today, screenshot below. One section at the edge of this canyon is offset roughly 10x the true distance (annotated distances are in meters). The screenshot was captured outside of Scene, but once identified the same defect is visible in the raw data inside Scene.jedfrechette wrote: ↑Thu May 27, 2021 4:55 pm I've never seen this from any of our Faro scanners starting with the original 120 up through a S350+. In our case the details are:
Data captured by S Plus 350, Rev A firmware 6.7.0.4464
Data imported directly in to Scene 2019.2 directly from SD card.
@scottkim do you have an issue number with Faro that we can reference when we contact support? To me this seems like a new problem that didn't exist in previous revisions of their products.
