Point Cloud Video made with Rhino 3D / Bongo

Post by Mike Annear »

Hi,
I have just made a small test video of a flythrough of a 3D scan of an Avro Lancaster Bomber .
It was scanned with a Leica HDS 7000 ...Thanks Chris !!
The video also shows the 3D model that I made from the pointcloud towards the end.

I used Rhino 3D plus a plugin called "Bongo" to create the camera path and generate the animation.

I am aiming to put together some "How To" instructional videos for Rhino modelling from Pointclouds in the near future if anyone is interested.
Regards,
Mike

WOW! Super smooth render Mike. Doesn't look like it drops frames like others I've seen.

Great model at the end by the way!!

Nice video I think I should consider Rhino for some of our promotionnal videos. Currently we use Naviswork but it does have "glitches" in the point rendering that sometime show in the videos.

I have to ask however, what is this blue point rendering? Is it a form of intensity spectrum you can change within Rhino ?(instead of the traditionnal black/gray/white rendering)

Hi Paul, Leandre,
I have been using Rhino for 3D modeling from pointclouds for quite awhile, but I have only just started using the Bongo animation plugin for rendering flythroughs of pointclouds + Models.
It still has a few bugs, but the guys from McNeel (Rhino) are getting used to my daily "beta testing" submissions :)
I needed a "repeatable" camera path so I can render out several separate layers, then composite them together later in Adobe After Effects.

The Bomber was painted nearly completely black at the time of scanning, so I needed to ramp up the intensity to make it look presentable.
I made my own blue "Scalar Field" (intensity) in CloudCompare and applied that to the RGB channel of the E.57 before importing into Rhino for modelling.
Regards,
Mike.
