BLK2GO Firmware 2.0.0

Post by Moc »

Hello everyone,

there is a new major firmware release (2.0.0) for the BLK2GO with a new Grand SLAM algorithm.

Excerpt from the Release notes:

"The new GrandSLAM version improves the reliability and can handle a
wider variety of scenarios.
In the new firmware version, the sensor will automatically adjust the
SLAM methodology to meet the requirements of the surrounding
environment. Default scanning mode uses GrandSLAM (the
combination of Visual SLAM, LiDAR SLAM, and IMU).
Further significant improvements to precision and point cloud
visualisation from firmware version 2.0.0 will become available with the
2021 version of Cyclone REGISTER 360, Cyclone REGISTER 360 (BLK Edition)
and Cyclone REGISTER. The 2021 release will take place in the coming weeks."

Did not have the time to try it out yet.

I think there may be something wrong with the versioning info. Just updated and it's telling me the version installed is the Dec 2020. Just an FYI.

It took me two tries to get 2.0 loaded on our BLK2GO. First time seemed to finish rather quickly. I'm guessing it had an issue and bailed. Second time took about 15 minutes and included a full reboot.

After it loaded we did some test scans of the office and Grand SLAM lived up to expectations. keep lock well and resulting point cloud seemed like it had lower noise levels overall (maybe wishful thinking on my part).

That sounds alright. When the update takes typically 15-20min it is a good way of seeing a successful update. After you updated the BLK2GO, check out both the browser and also on the BLK2GO Live App that the version is correctly uploaded ;)

I downloaded and installed on Monday quickly with no issues. Scanned two schools on Tuesday and have to say I'm impressed with the new release, the scanner now tells you when there is a lack of data for SLAM to process and then allows you to carry on instead of just misaligning the data. The results just look a lot better, I think the improved colour correction has helped.

Good job Leica, can we expect some more big leaps like this now phone based point clouds will start clipping at the heels of professional equipment like the BLK2GO?
