Paint and Finish Recommendations for Scanning

Post by adlerdm »

Hello! New to scanning here.

I work at a neutron research facility and have been using laser trackers and pcmms for over 10 years now doing mostly characterization and alignment work. We recently purchased a Surphaser 410 scanner (so recent that we haven’t received it yet!) that we plan to use to capture as-built data of parts of our facility that our usually inaccessible due to physical or radiation constraints. We are currently designing new guide casings for a future guide system upgrade. Our guide casings are painted steel weldments that are typically 10 to 30 feet long.

My question is… is there a recommended paint color and finish for achieving the best scan results? The more detailed the spec the better so we can communicate our needs to our manufacturers.

Thanks in advance for your help!
