I have not posted on this thread for many months, since I figured you have seen enough information on our NavVis VLX.

NavVis has improved their post-processing software over time and we continue to re-post-process our projects to improve the output quality since it costs us nothing except electricity using our current AMD ThreadRipper 3990X and Intel i9-9980XE. To improve on post-processing through put, I am building an AMD ThreadRipper Pro 3995WX to see how much improvement, if any, will occur with the NavVis and other software for BIM and visualization with faster and more RAM, better and more GPUs, and parallel processing on local systems vs. cloud based systems.

On a recent topographic project on Kauai, Hawaii, we used our NavVis VLX to capture point clouds on a 5mm grid (approximately 100K sq meters, 1,640 panoramas-6,560 each120Mpixel images).

Below is a screen shot of one of the panoramas, and illustrates why we take HDR color images with all of our scanning projects, especially with the VLX.

Nice one Dennis as always. Testing the gear up until it's limits!

Whenever I see Dennis' scans, I feel like on vacation ;D

You probably already know but with the just released new version of the processing software among other things we further improved pano quality with respect to the coloring. Especially outdoors with e.g. sunset / sunrise light this makes a difference. As always, just reprocess to apply it to existing projects :)

I tested it in Munich and as you see in the pictures of our release notes the improvements are quite noticeable in those challenging conditions.

From far away any point cloud looks good. So have a look at this :)
This was by the way before our last sw update.

Yup Georg - Me and Matt are already planning a second scan mid April. Need to see how much improvement we will get on the new software! 8-) 8-)

This sounds likes a potential solution to a 1.6M sf job that we are pursuing. A few questions:

1. above ceiling spaces: could it be lifted into the space through a popped ceiling tile?
2. alternatively, can we combine data from our FARO into this data?
3. how much to budget for daily SF we can cover (hospital space)...

i will need to reach out to a NavVis rep.

Sounds like an interesting project that could be completed in a week with our scanner:
1. Yes and I have some sample data of that to show
2. Yes, you can do cloud to cloud or physically touch a metal pin on VLX against center of each checkerboard you want to use and register data together automatically.
3. Happy to chat over PM / or a call - my cell 929 399 3189

Unit inbound some time in June/July. :D

We did some comparison checks in Cyclone 3DR and ACAD between VLX data and S150 data and were very impressed with the results.

Mike and Sven have been very helpful and we're looking forward to using the VLX.

Hey Simeon,

If you have time, would you mind posting some of your results and methodology? I agree the data looks very clean for a Velodyne puck, but a comparison to a TLS would be very helpful.

Great to hear that Simeon!

Hi Kyle, did you see this already?
You can download the TLS as well as the VLX point cloud here: https://www.navvis.com/resources/videos ... vlx-vs-tls

Also, the team is doing some life demos through video calls in case they cannot travel to you.
