Modeling from Photos / Rhino 3D render/ David 3D Scanner

Post by Mike Annear »

Hi All,
I have been tasked with 3D modelling some jewellery, I have used my David 3D scanner /scaled photos to get the overall dimensions, then used Rhino 3D to create and render the 3D models. This has been a bit of a nightmare, I am used to working on very large surveying scale projects, so jewellery is a bit of a challenge.
I have used the David 3D Scanner (Now a product of HP :) for scanning Australian archaeological artifacts in the past, but they generally aren't that reflective.
The David 3D Scanner works best on objects around 500mm in size, so there was a fair bit of modification with the optics, including buying a "Contact Lens" for the scanner projector and a macro lens for the camera to reduce the scanning range.
I think the end result is pretty nice :)
