SLOW Processing in Scene

Post by mtyler1 » Thu Nov 08, 2018 5:27 pm

I have the latest release of Scene.

I'm running Windows 10 Pro
Intel i7-6900K @3.2GHz, 16 cores
2 x Nvidia Quadro K4200 cards
1 TB SSD PCe HD

Processing 112 scans. Color, HD Laser (some pretty dark bits in the crawl space). Not high resolution scans. It's been processing for 1.5 hours now, and is not quite 80% done. Am I missing something

Which portion of the Processing are you referring too? That seems about right Using the new interface that does Pre-processing, Colorizing, Filtering, target identification and registration all in one go. I usually run that kind of thing overnight as it is not a quick process. When you say not high resolution are saying they are something like 1/8th 2X or 1/4 3X, Something like that? Mine usually takes more than a minute per scan just for the Pre-processing.

Thank you for the response. Yes, precisely that. Funnily enough, it finished processing right after my post, so I'm good.

I have the latest release of Scene.
This is not addressed to MTyler1, but everyone that uses the phrase, "latest release of" anySoftware (FARO, Leica, Z+F, etc),
rather than saying the "latest Release of Scene" specify the version completely:
* Scene 6.2.4.30
* Scene 7.1.1.81
* Scene 2018.2.0.648 (sometimes ID'd as 7.2.0.648 - ask Faro)

after a while the software referenced as the "latest version" is no longer the
most current version and the issue discussed may have already been addressed.

(It's even possible to put the version in the title like - but that would be asking a lot :lol:

I really can't emphasize enough how important this is. An exact version number would be a good start.
For us as developers of software, you can never have enough precise information. Things like exact processing settings (filters, target detection color mode,...) and scan resolution/parameters/profile would be key to understand what a potential issue could be or to figure out potential workarounds. With all the relevant information at hand, it is much easier to give quick feedback and support.

2018.0.x (official version number) = 7.2.x (internal number) by the way. As of today, there is no 2018.2 version of SCENE. We don't want to cause more confusion for future readers of this post :)

I also noticed that your CPU is actually an 8 Core processor (16 threads)!

Back to the original topic. Glad to hear this came to end sooner than you expected!
