I ran a quick project yesterday during a training course using 250mm spheres and a the new High Detail scanning feature that came with the latest firmware update. The setup was very basic...two 1/8 res scans situated at about 60m apart from one another. Under any other circumstance, this would not be simple to register but we were able to capture three spheres in both scans at high resolution and with very good registration results.
I'll need to test this some more but it brings a lot of efficiencies to the table when scanning very large expanses like wide open fields or long, straight stretches of roadway.

Hi all
We too have recently been testing this with equally good results.
It is a great feature and will allow greater distance between scans where required. Checkerboards can be scanned at longer distances to allow for greater distribution of targets to increase confidence levels when using survey control.

Does anyone know of settings to adjust resolution of the additional scanning? I'd like to be able to customize this based on the range of my targets, definitely don't need to be adding 7 1/2 minutes of scanning for something just outside my typical range.

I should probably create a video on this...we just used it on a case and it worked out great. Perfect feature for the application.
Basically, how it works is that you complete a regular scan and in the preview that comes up, there is a new item called “Scan Group”. Click on that and you go to a new window where you get the same preview except that you can click on the screen and create a rectangular section to scan (it works on your phone too). You can adjust the size of the rectangle to suit the size of the targets and you can choose the resolution up to 1/1. Also, you can choose several areas to scan. I have only tried a few at once and don’t know if there is a limit on this.
Once you are ready, just hit scan and it will only record the highlighted areas. The final result is a scan group that behaves much like a cluster. Scene automatically detects the scan and it’s sub-groups.
