High quality videos out of point cloud
Hi!
Could anyone recommend a good and easy to use programm for making high quality videos out of point clouds?
Customers often asks for some videos to see what is the point cloud data like, and I have had some troubles making them. Riegl softwares we use for data processing have some tools for making videos based on trajectory / flightline (trajectory animation) but they are quite limited in every way. The ReCaps video export isn´t very good either, you have to mess up with viewpoints and stuff (or then I'm just bad using that, hah.)
It would be nice, that your high quality data look high quality also in videos.

Re: High quality videos out of point cloud
It depends how pointcloudy you want the render to be in visual quality.
I personally like the ghostly point cloud nature of the data so think the 3DS Max/Maya plugin Krakatoa provides the best renders of point clouds as you can get so much control over that. However it is not a particularly easy package to use as it comes out of the VFX industry and has many settings on top of 3DS Max/Maya.

Re: High quality videos out of point cloud
Hello to everybody,
Personally i use Video Tools from my post-processing software "JRC3D Reconstructor".
It work by Poliline trajectory or fixing camera location and set m/s for the moving of the camera...in the beginning could seems a bit complicated, but after few test it look good!
Then i create small videos and import them in "Pinnacle Studio", to merge it and create my final video.
if you want, here some example on my Youtube page "Matteo Tartaglini":

Navisworks is pretty nice because of the great animator but a bit noisy. SCENE is also quite nice and not so noisy. It depends all of your needs.

Do you mean like a 'flythrough' video? If so, we use Veesus Arena 4D (they have a sub-forum on here).

I'm biased, but I don't believe there is a better point cloud animation suite out there than our own

Our software can produce videos of almost any resolution and aspect ratio, frame rate, super sampled, stereo and even panoramic 360. You can do straight forward camera fly-throughs, or animate objects in the scene (or even the point cloud properties if you want to get really creative).
Please see some examples below:

360 Panoramic Video:

You can try it all free for 14 days.. just download from our website www.veesus.com. We have user manuals there and tutorial videos on YouTube.. and of course you can email us or post on here for our help 24/7 (almost!).
Many Thanks
Mark

Yes, mostly flythrough videos of mobile and UAV LiDAR data.sim.herrod wrote: ↑Fri Sep 07, 2018 12:48 pmDo you mean like a 'flythrough' video? If so, we use Veesus Arena 4D (they have a sub-forum on here).
And thanks all, now I already have a few softwares to test.

Hi !
I recommend Arena 4D which is a an powerful and easy program to use. It allows you to animate clipping boxes for stunning videos. 3ds Max is also a good option, although it manages large point clouds with more difficulties. However, it remains interesting for combining point cloud and 3D model (BIM).
Here is an example of a video produced by these two softwares :

Re: High quality videos out of point cloud
I'll throw my hat in the ring here as well. Our software NUBIGON offers a solution dedicated to point cloud visualization and animation. It enables you to combine point clouds with CAD and BIM models, present them in various display modes, even add virtual lights and shadows, and a whole lot more.
I'd encourage you to explore our YouTube Channel https://www.youtube.com/c/NUBIGON, which likely offers the largest selection of point cloud videos on that platform. You'll find dozens of videos produced by our community organized by display mode, data acquisition method, object type, hardware manufacturer, and model.
Here's a recent example from one of our clients:
