Hello,

has anybody experiences with 3D laser scanning and virtual reality? I want to present point clouds in Virtual Reality environment using Oculus technology.

Thanks!

Yes :)

What do you want to know, do, or achieve?

You can try our software here (free 14 day trial) http://veesus.com/veesus-arena4d-data-studio/ it is compatible with Oculus and HTC (and anything else which supports Steam VR).

Hi Radovan,

FARO SCENE has an integrated VR solution that supports the Rift, the Vive and Windows Mixead Reality Headsets. You can view the full point cloud of very large projects without any perfomance issues (that would cause motion sickness). Room scale tracking and the VR controllers are fully integrated. You can view CAD models together with your point cloud, do measurements and so on all using an intuitive special VR user interface.

The full SCENE version can be tested with a free 30 day trial version, but loading and viewing of existing projects and VR is part of the free SCENE LT.

Thank you for your answer, but I guess, that if I don't have data generated from FARO Scanner and in Faro file format, it is not possible to use these programs. Or is possible to import for example E57 file?

Hello Mark,

thank you for your answer. I want to present 3D laser scanning data in VR environment - for scientific purposes a popularitazing activities. We scanned some areas, which are now definitely inaccessible and presentation only in paper form is insufficient and weak.

Yes, e57 can be imported!
Simply import the file(s) and create a project point cloud and you are good to go!

Hi Radovan,

Ok our software allows you to move around freely in VR within your point cloud without any loss of detail and at full resolution. You can also include 3d models, measurements, annotations, images, etc.. Anything which our standard desktop software supports is visible in the VR view.

Also you can take measurements and readings of points whilst in VR.

The trial is free for 14 days, and the VR module is £299 for 12 months subscription should you wish to continue using it after the trial.

Here's a couple videos showing the VR capability in action:

We can import Faro, Riegl, Dot Product, ZF, E57, LAS, PTS and ASCII point cloud files.. so pretty much anything!

Any questions please just ask.

Many Thanks

Mark
