Faro As-Built

Post by Mrk » Thu Jul 12, 2018 12:36 am

Hi all,

Has anyone purchased a licence of Pointsense since it was rebranded to As-Built? Faro seem to have withdrawn the software from resellers and I can't get a quote from them directly. It's bizarre how difficult Faro have made it to acquire their software...it's almost as it they don't want to make any sales.

Has anyone run into any similar issues?

Mark

I think they are experiencing major M&A pains. It literally took almost 8 months to get my licensing hashed out. Keep emailing support@faro.com, eventually you will get ahold of someone who knows what you need.

Also, if you have a local Rep they should be assisting you in the effort.

Good luck!

I recently purchased the As-Built suite a few weeks ago and the sales person in my region was pretty responsive. However, I purchased it with a dongle because I have had all kinds of soft licensing problems with SCENE. It took days for support to get that fixed. So when I renewed SCENE I bought a dongle just for that reason. Now no more SCENE problems.

I downloaded As-Built from their website, installed the software, and the dongle obviously worked. I'm not having any software problems. Many of their training videos though are for Pointsense and don't match the new As-Built features and some of the AutoCAD tab icons. I'm working through that but in general it's working for me.

Every Scene license (and related software) should ship with a dongle -anything less is a waste of time for everyone, including the FARO Scene/As-built staff. Once I purchased the dongle, the license problems ended.

I found a local rep to assist me...I'm sure they know how many sales they're missing out on since dropping their resellers

Do you really find pointsense that useful? I’ve been modelling for years without it.

So many cheaper options out there

I’ve heard it’s good for MEP but that’s about it.

@caddrafting2013 : what do you use?

I've bought pointsense when it was still Kubit, i like a lot of the features but do not use all of them.

I don't renew my maintenance this year and will use it with the tools i have at the moment. Support is very limited, info on new releases is non existent, examples shown in webinars are always from the same pointclouds, the manual is at some points completely unusable. Updating the dongle every time with a new release is a pain.

I've spent already to much on this software to keep justifying it' annual maintenance cost.

I only use REVIT I haven’t wasted my money on any of the major plug ins.

Really I don’t see the need too! You can still build an Asbuilt model in Revit without any of them and make custom families.

Have been for the last 4 years without any trouble

Having tried out PointCab, VisionLidar, Edgewise, and Pointsense, I've concluded that, while Pointsense might not be the quickest, it offers the most tools for best price. I'm keen to hear what options you have in mind?

I'll be using it for Scan to BIM conversions for arch, struc, & MEP disciplines - I expect many of these to be heritage as well.
