Software Recommendation

Post by dan574 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 2:37 am

Hi All, I'm hoping for some suggestions on a possible software solution.

We have been moving to laser scanning (Riegl Vz-400I & Risolve) of collision scenes over the past 9 months or so and we need a solution to replicate what we have done in the past.

We were using total stations and an old cad program (terramodel) to produce a basic 2d line drawing, the first issue we have is to do with yaws and how we perform a chord and middle ordinate measure within the scan.

We need to draw a chord at a fixed distance say 20 metres then need to measure a number of ordinates along that chord at certain intervals and measure the distance back to the yaw mark.

The second issue is in relation trepresenting the vehicle along the tyre marks, we need to be able to draw a number of rectangles with the track width and wheelbase dimensions of the vehicle along the tyre marks.

This process is easy with total station data and terramodel and can be done quite quickly however doing it with the scan data is a bit harder.

I've attached a picture of what I want to achieve.

If anyone can think of an easy way to do this using the scans and whether there is a software program that will allow us to do it.

Thanks in advance.

We use Terramodel in our office and are slowly migrating to Civil 3d because we can import the point clouds. Most of our guys still prefer working in Terramodel because they’ve been using it for so long. I’ll frequently do some of the drafting or create a surface in Civil 3D using the point cloud then export a dxf so the Terramodel guys guys can use their comfortable workflow.

Drives me nuts but I can’t get them to give up on Terramodel.

Been playing with Google Sketchup Pro since posting and it seems it may do what I want.

I would have to produce a plan in Risolve in jpeg and import that into Sketchup, rescale image to scale bar and do what I want.

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Daniel,
Take a look at IMS Map 360 by MircoSurvey out of British Columbia, Canada. Easy to use CAD and can import point clouds. Produces drawings and able to do animations.
