Hi Richard, will you and the scanner be at InterGEO?
Hi Jason, yes the prototype and I will be at InterGEO, although due to other commitments I'm only able to make it on the 27th unfortunately.
Will you be at a specific booth?

I won't but if you send me a message we can try and organise a convenient time and place to meet up.

Is this a laser scanner ? Might sound like a dumb question, but recently we've had a number of RGB-D based scanners, which coupled with a decent SLAM algorhythm, loop closure and a regular camera, can do some nice, coloured scans.

Of course, I'm not talking about GeoSlam or Kaarta scanners, since those are clearly laser scanners, based on a Velodyne Puck-Lite or Hokuyo modules, all under 7K, or even less, coupled with a HDR camera (which is optional).

Hi Jason,
It was - it's the low resolution panorama generated by the scanner for colouring the point cloud.

Below is the high-resolution panorama from the same scan (although this is still only 1/3 our max resolution)

Is this a laser scanner ?
Hi,
It is yes - we're using lidar technology rather than structured-light RGB-D sensors

thanks for the post! Looks interesting and looking forward to some sample data.
Hi James,

No problem with the post, we do try to be the first to bring you all the latest laser scanning news from around the world.

How your new role with the guys at Point2Surveyors working out? Are you now based in their central London office?
Hi Phil,

The new role is going really well, thanks for asking :) I am based in the Oxford Technical/R&D Office, although I will be also in the London office I am sure. (was there yesterday and last week)

You may already be thinking about this, but since there seems to be a significant focus on HDR imaging I'll take this opportunity to request the ability to get panoramas out as true scene-linear floating point images rather than the dumbed-down tone-mapped jpgs we usually get out of scanners. If you exported the HDRs as .exr files you could even include the geometry data as additional channels. I can think of a few really interesting applications for that type of data package.

Hi Jed, that's a great idea. In the short term we'll be sticking to tone-mapped jpegs but we can look to generate true scene-linear floating point images in future software updates.
