I am looking for as much automatic pipe detection as possible, and would be really nice if it could detect the ductwork even if its rectangular or be able to vectorize point cloud that is clean and fast.
It's pretty fantastic software. I just finished writing a gigantic US spec pipe and structural steel catalog for it, so that it isn't limited to replacing extracted pipes with JIS (Japan International Spec) piping and structural steel elements.
Automatic pipe detection is phenomenal and extremely fast. It extracts planes and pipes at the same time. It took about an hour and 15 minutes to extract piping and planes from a 272 scan project. At this time it won't detect rectangular ductwork as such, but rather a collection of planes. We complement InfiPoints with Design X to model equipment and other components. There is also an automatic segment extraction feature for making floor plan drawings quickly and easily.
If you want, I can run a sample dataset and get you pictures and time metrics quicker than you can get a trial response or anything through Elysium. I can accept already registered projects, unified pointclouds, or unregistered pointclouds in most formats so let me know.
We've been the sole US customer/user since August and we use it every single day and are still finding uses for all the features it offers.
We were formerly a Kubit Plant user, but the main problem was that it was tied to AutoCad which offered nothing but crashes up to 10 times a day.
You could also use Edgewise MEP by ClearEdge 3D, as it is the only other software package i'm aware of that offers automatic modeling features.
PM me if you have any other questions.
