Question - Cyclone Registration applied to Faro Scene

Post by JShubin »

Hi Everyone,

We often have clients that want fls files as the deliverable, and to have the transformations match our Cyclone registration. In the old days we used to apply transformations in Scene by copy/paste ONE scan at a time which was Quite Tedious!!!

We're still using Scene 2019 while waiting company approval to upgrade. As engineers who also do laser scanning AND write our own programs, I'm curious if there is a demand, even if it's small, for users to easily build a FARO workspace or FARO project where the transformations would match their Cyclone registration? We've developed software to do this, but I'm not sure if there is a demand for it, or if people already have easy methods to achieve this.

Thanks!

We’re not Cyclone users, but if were I would absolutely want this.

In general, we’ve found a huge amount of utility in being able to move transformation information between applications independent of the heavy scan data. The way we’ve standardized on doing that internally is using PolyWorks 4x4 transform files, which are just a text file containing a 4x4 matrix. There is a plug-in from Scantaxi that let’s us apply those transforms to a Scene project [1] and at this point we’ve probably written close to half a dozen integrations for other software ranging from photogrammetry to general 3D modeling apps. As much as we end up jumping between different applications it just ends up being really useful to be able to move transforms around.
