Hi guys,
We had a closer look at the new FARO PanoCam solution ... a FARO FocusS scanner + Ricoh Theta Z1 camera + adapter. Check our new video:
youtu.be/q-VCzE9bN6c
Beside a lot of information, you can see how to mount adapter and camera to the scanner and how it works.
What do you think of the final colorized point cloud?
Moreover, the FARO PanoCam adapter is already available in our online shop: https://shop.laserscanning-europe.com/A ... RO-PanoCam

Thanks for documenting this and uploading the video.
Do you have details on the processing time within scene? How does it compare to the processing time with the internal camera?
Are there any caveats? E.g. can this setup be used for all kinds of spaces or external only? Would there be too much parallax/distortion for closed internal spaces or can we expect that the calibration takes care of this in all conditions?
Thanks again

Re: Color scans with FARO Focus S and Ricoh Theta Z1 panorama camera
The processing time increases due to the colouring with the images from the panorama camera. How much time this processing takes is currently still being tested.
The panorama camera can be used everywhere without restrictions. However, the parallax causes the colouring in the close-up range to be incomplete. There is no shift in the colouration, but some areas that are visible in the point cloud but not in the panoramic image. These only retain the colour of the point cloud.

Re: Color scans with FARO Focus S and Ricoh Theta Z1 panorama camera
Just found out about this camera attachment... this is quite exciting if it drastically speeds up image capture on scene. Thanks for the video. May have to arrange a demo.
It looks like image capture is taken during the scanners inclinomater rotation. What if you want to take a second image?
How does colourising work within SCENE? Is it simply a case of clicking 'apply color', or are there manual steps involved?

You are correct, it takes the photo during the inclinometer capture. If you set it to two photos then it takes one at the start and one at the end. These photos are from the same scan....DavidL wrote: ↑Thu Jul 08, 2021 11:30 am Just found out about this camera attachment... this is quite exciting if it drastically speeds up image capture on scene. Colorize scans in processing just like normal.

Re: Color scans with FARO Focus S and Ricoh Theta Z1 panorama camera
You can choose to take one or two images? I guess that if you take only one image, then part of the data that is colored with scanner (since scanner is visible on every image)? I guess that taking 2 images solves that problem by masking scanner part of the image and fill it with part of the second image?
