when looking at the X7, the dual-axis / self-leveling is compelling, also not being charged a crazy amount of money for software subscriptions yearly is also a plus. However, the range is not that great (?) but that is subjective depending on what you are trying to scan.

It is, slower but half the price of an RTC360 for example. I am wondering how much "worse" than an RTC360 is, or how much better than a BLK for instance.

Self-leveling is very good because I use it many times in hard to reach places and on a 4.5m high tripod. The range is around 80m, but rather less. Accuracy is about 4-5 mm on roadway, about 3mm on black shiny metal surface, but if you use noise filter, go down to 2mm. I’ve never used leica scanners, I can’t compare. Field registration works very well with 10-15 meters. There has only been one problem with the instrument so far, the registration did not work in bushy areas.
