Great post Shane ;)

I`ve had a quick look in CloudCompare and must say the data is impressive. Hats off to the NavVis Team, well done.

Thanks Jason! If you want to see how to use the device you might want to check out our little tutorial here:

Hi Georg,

I`ve watched them all so far... :)

Would like to know if there is any sample data available of an external building elevation or perhaps a small street scene?

Many thanks,

Jason

Can you have a look at the sample data: https://www.navvis.com/resources/vlx-sample-data
There is an MEP, and outdoor and an office scene.
I hope the outdoor scene is what you are looking for. If not let me know and I will try to get you something.

Obligatory point cloud fly through made today mucking about with the data in SCC and put my thoughts down on LinkedIn here. Love the data and looking forward to seeing some of my users having a go on this device to see what they think.

Jason

These point clouds from the VLX are probably the best you will find for an outside street view. There maybe others, but I have not seen them yet.

A Preview of some outside point clouds generated from screen shots by myself from PLY files provided by NavVis, and post-processed at 10mm grid.

If you look closely at the point cloud screen shots, I was impressed at the quality of the 10mm grid post-processing, especially on the pavement and cars in the Blender view, in fact all three look like photographs. Processed at 5mm grid, would make them look better.

Hi Dennis,

Your sample data set does look much bigger than the one I downloaded, but still impressive.

Hehe, yes Dennis already got more data from us :) The samples we uploaded are around 500MB to make it easy to get them.
Jason, if you want I will connect you to an account manager to provide you more data / answers.

As some of you know, we ran a 6 month pilot program to get & implement feedback. Rek & Wieck is a publicly chartered surveyor in Germany and not easy to impress (hence a good pilot customer). They did quite some examination on accuracy and reliability. This is their conclusion:

Hi,

Here's a test we did with the outdoor sample of the VLX.
We are really impressed by the quality of data for a mobile device. Good work NavVis!
This was also an opportunity to test our multi-clipping in ScanSap to remove the trees from the pointcloud:

Hi Georg,

Do you have any videos showing the office processing side for the VLX data? e.g registration, tying to control points and de-noising etc?
Also, are these black and white control targets on the wall?
