I have not used Faro but I've done plenty of inverted scans.
For control I put different sized X marks around the inside just below the lid visible from the outside/ top. I use soap stone marker.

You can also run the soap stone marker way down the barrel making a line with the occasional crossing sort line for deep manholes.
My standard process is to do an up right scan next to the manhole capturing as much of the barrel of the manhole as possible.
Then do a inverted scan out side the manhole before going down every 6 feet or so and doing a scan.

Hello,

we have many customers who use our overhead tripods for manhole scanning.

They primarily use 2 workflows

1) do the firs Scan at the manhole / ground surface and then register the 2nd deep scan by using C2C
2) or if the geocoordinates are required, then 3 reference spheres should measure with the mini prism. Also the first scan at the manhole / ground surface level and the 2nd scan can be registered with C2C.

Thanks for the video.

Though may I suggest to anyone that uses this technique to not attach the scanner to the tripod while over the open manhole.

Rather attach to the tripod away from manhole and then move the tripod over manhole once attached!
