Re: SCENE 2019.1 (7.4.02351)

I have created multiple WebShare Cloud exports with the new version and there are unit tests that export several projects with different kinds of scans and properties. (Note that a SCENE 2go export is almost identical to a WebShare Cloud export.) So it is necessary to get more information about the crashes for fixing the cause:

OBSOLETE, BUG IS FIXED!

Do all projects crash or just one/some?

What exactly are the settings in the WebShare Cloud export dialog?

What are key properties of the failed project (or your PC) that could be related to the crash? E.g. does the project have special scans in it?

At which point of the export do the exports crash?
SCENE can create a detailed log of the WebShare Cloud export:
Settings - General - Log files - Enable logging
Then go to that folder’s subfolder “SCENE_Logs_WebShare_Cloud_Export” for the log file of the failed WebShare Cloud export.

SCENE sometimes gives the possibility to send a dump file to us after a crash.

Most helpful for debugging is often to get the project that crashes.

When generating Scene 2go and want the scan overlays to be generated, it crashes always with Scene version 2019.1.
If I choose not to generate the scan overlays, it works fine.

I’ve become aware of some dump files that were sent to us and the crashes during the WebShare Cloud export all happen at the same code line. The code line is pretty surprising to me. I have to investigate what is going wrong there.

I installed the patch but now when opening the quick view on a scan after a few moments with the little circle processing the image turns black when it stops turning. You can see the scanner head icon and all planes and checkerboard markers. I've checked the Nvidia settings and it's set to 3D App Game Development. Planar and 3D views seems to work okay. Hey everyone, just wanted to share our patch (for the problem with the integration with 3rd party applications) is now available online via the normal update processes.
You should get the respective info via SCENE news.

Of course, we continue to look into all of the other problems!

The bug causing the crash during the WebShare Cloud export is unfortunately a tough one to fix. It is a timing-related problem and therefore hard to reproduce reliably for debugging. I was not yet able to pinpoint what triggers the chain of effects that eventually cause the crash.

The just released patch release might crash less often, though.

Still no luck with creating webshare.

Is there a way to revert a project to a previous version once it has been opened by 2019.1? I could then use the previous version to create the webshare.

Note to self. Always backup a copy of your project before opening in a new version.....

We are confident to have found and fixed the issue.

Until a new patch version is released:
  • The problem should only occur if there is more than one map layer, excluding the “SCENE Overview Map” map style which uses a different approach and never triggers the crash.
  • So the crash should not appear if there is just the whole overview map and no additional map layer (or the SCENE-style map and only one additional map layer), that is: scan overlays, multi-layer map, layout plans.
  • The probability of the crash should roughly increase by x% per additional map layer. So not activating the scan overlays should often reduce the probability of the crash occurring a lot.

After installing the most recent patch, my WSC exported successfully. 167 scans, three overlays in addition to the main overview, and including scan overlays. It also exported incredibly quickly I might add. That's a relief - I thought I'd be spending my day re-registering!
