Hello there.
I use Scene for work and got myself a brand new computer to make it run "faster". It's got a threadripper 2990wx overclocked to 3.8Ghz, 128gb of ddr4 3200mhz ram, a Samsung 970 pro 1tb M.2 ssd, a radeon rx vega 56 and it's watercooled so it never runs that hot.
My main issue is the fact that Scene, even though it takes a whole bunch more of resources*, kind of runs as fast as on my old laptop with only 8 gigs of ram and a 8th gen i5.
Does anyone know how to make it go faster ? Is there something I forgot to configure ?
* = 100% cpu usage, around 70 gigs of ram when going on large projects but also ssd and gpu staying at 0% at almost all times.

Re: Faro scene not that fast
The i5 could very likely have better single core speed. I find lots of softwares will only use one core at a time, although if using Scene I know that the multicore performance should be much better on your new PC.
I've been leery about building anything with an AMD processor/GPU for point cloud work, as pretty much everyone uses intel and nvidia products. It's very likely that these programs were written on machines using intel processors, and may not be optimized or even tested to run on AMD machines. My two cents.

Re: Faro scene not that fast
On all tasks, I never have any hardware issues, and whenever I'm trying to C2C with a 100 scans scene crashes with no error message.
Yes I do, I have the last scene version on both my computers.
If there's anything I can do on my hardware or software to make it faster and more stable I'm open to suggestions, I though that getting a better computer it'd make my work faster. Anything really that could help would be welcome, even changing some hardware parts on the pc (not too much I don't wanna start refunding the whole thing)

What video card do you have? See Faro Knowledge article on Scene and Video cards:
https://knowledge.faro.com/Software/FAR ... phics_Card
The Scene crash may be something in the video card driver, or a setting in the Video Card/Bios.
You can contact me at [email protected] if you wish and we can troubleshoot. If you can send me a "dmp" file when Scene crashes next, that would be helpful to isolate the issue.
Thanks

Re: Faro scene not that fast
I have a Radeon RX vega 56 and the CPU has no integrated graphics. Scene produces no dmp file after the crash.DuaneDoucet wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2019 7:44 pm What video card do you have? See Faro Knowledge article on Scene and Video cards:
