Thickness of a cross-section

Post by mehmetvozdogan »

Hi,

I think it is an easy question, but how can i arrange the thickness of a cross-section taken from a point cloud data. i could not find. I do not mean spacing. I mean thickness of cross-section.

Actually i need 2D cross section data from 3d point cloud with minimum thickness. How can i get 2D cross section data.

Thank you..

If you double-click on the clipping plane or right-click on it and go to edit, you can change the depth of the cross section.

Hi,
The proposal from Kyle is correct.

Once you have created the clipping plane with the right depth, you can also separate this slice of the point cloud in a more permanent way with the tool cloud/separate with/visibility.

If what you are looking for is different, do not hesitate to ask some more!

I use create along axis tab. I do not create a clipping plane. Is it possible to solve from create along axis options?

Hi Mehmet,

The outputs of the "create along axis" command are polylines: vertices connected by segments. Usually created as a section of a mesh at regular intervals along a curve.
This tool also allows to create polylines onto a point cloud. In this case, you can define the depth of the point cloud on which the polyline should be created at each section.
I would say that the polylines created on a mesh are much cleaner. This is why we promote this workflow.

In order to slice a point cloud along a curve, I would recommend to create a clipping plane following the input curve.
See a video of how to do it here:

Note: when a clipping plane is activated, you can lock a view to be always parallel to the plane: when moving the plane with the ctrl+wheel, the locked view will follow. To activate this, look for the lock on the bottom right of the software.

Hi,
I have one more question about cross section with clipping plane

The clipping plane have to be perpendicular to my long axis of my tunnel. How can i ensure that?
