Hello,
I'm a teacher in France about construction methods and a 3D passionate. I'm fascinating by reality capture and my goal for these new year and many next years is to contaminate my students !! To make that, I need images that impact.
My students are in construction industry formations, so they need to see : building, cranes and concrete.
I wanna show them point clouds that could impress them to catch their attention.
Does anyone here have any pointcloud dataset that I could use to this educational project ? With a mention of the source for sure. Please not only images but a point cloud. The major part of my students has never seen a point cloud before, it's important for them to see that it is interactive datas.
Thanks a lot !

ONe thing worth thinking about which I used to do a lot is to contact the local scanning sales guy and bring them in for a few hours to run a class. they would be able to bring the hardware and give a great over view.

Yes, it is a solution.
But I wanna have the possibility to show them how to use point clouds. It will take maybe 5 of 6 days of work on the school. So, having existing datasets is probably a better solution...

If you are just looking for data, then you could have a look at our website.
Unfortunately our application primarily visualises the point cloud as Orthophotos, which is a lot easier for not so powerful computers and for the analyses of the project.

Thanks for your reply.
I have to say that, such as possible, I prefer having original datasets that I could open in open source softwares like CloudCompare...

There are some open samples in E57 here; http://www.libe57.org/data.htmlclement-valente wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 9:35 am Thanks for your reply.
I have to say that, such as possible, I prefer having original datasets that I could open in open source softwares like CloudCompare...
And some sample LAS files here; https://www.usna.edu/Users/oceano/pguth ... r_lab.html
Any of these should work with CloudCompare. That said, if you have instrument manufacturers willing to come out, show you some scanning kit, do a scan, and give your students the results in an open format such as E57 or LAS, I'd suggest that could be far more beneficial than looking at someone elses data. The quality and size of data is changing all the time, so older historic data isn't that representative of what you capture with modern kit such as a P40, RTC, etc...
