Cold weather scanning thoughts?

Post by rsivak »

If anyone has issues scanning in cold weather this is the fix I found best. $2 headbands from walmart and in extreme cases hand warmers can be inserted. What does everyone else do for cold weather scanning

We've scanned in -25C, and our 330's worked just fine. We just make sure to turn off the internal cooling fan.

i've always wondered why a piece of equipment as advanced as a Faro laser scanner couldn't have a $3 thermostat to control the fan.

I have tried my S70 in -30deg C and no issues, the only issue I had is when replacing the batteries you have to warm it up before starting the scanner. I had lots of issues with the previous S120.

I'm loving those headbands!
We usually don't have to deal with such cold weather, because we inspect underwater structures, and, you know, water tends to freeze when it's cold. (Also our scanner is Leica, so not sure what I'm doing in this topic...)
