SCENE Problems - Scans Processing

Post by EvandroRosina »

Hi guys
Again, I still have issues with SCENE. I am processing a project with some colorful scenes in the 1/2 3x parameters. The checks in this configuration contain much more data, but I'm having trouble processing them.
I have already tried to process in smaller groups, like 5 scans at a time, or even less. As a result, the program never completes processing or it closes.
I believe it is not a problem of my computer because it was purchased according to the requirements to work with the software.

Windows 10
Intel Core i7 7700
Memory: 64 gb
HD 1 TB and 480 GB SSD
Nvidia VGA P1000

Can someone help me?

I've experienced the same thing, as posted previously. Frustrating. My clunky workaround is to do an initial save prior to preprocessing. I have yet to have a preprocessing task close Scene after an initial save. It appears to defeat the purpose of preprocessing if you have to do an initial save...

I look forward to and feedback from Faro folks. They asked to see the dmp files after a shutdown, but i have yet to be able to find them to share.

Hi Evandro,

sorry to hear that you have problems.

If SCENE closes without a message, please do the following:
* Open your Windows Explorer
* Browse to your Windows temporary folder (type in %temp% in the address bar)
* Look for a *.dmp file created at the time SCENE crashed
* Send a mail to [email protected], describe what you have done and attach the dmp file

To check if this is a problem of your PC you can install SCENE on a second one and test it during the trial period.

Similar you can check if the behavior is already fixed in a newer SCENE version by downloading the newest installer and test it with the trial.

I tried the same process on another computer with the same settings as mine, even so, the Bug remains!

I sent the dmp file right away for this email!

We were able to solve the issue.

The root cause was a lot of stray points at ~600m distance which increased computation time and memory consumption.

This might be caused by dirt on the scanner mirror during capturing so please follow the cleaning instructions in the scanner manual if you experience the same.

For already captured scans the solution is to use the distance filter in SCENE during processing to get rid of such far away points.

Hope this helps & happy scanning :D

I'm glad it worked out for you. I'm not so sure the issues are related. I routinely have Scene shut down while preprocessing and almost always have distance filter on at 50, 70 or 100m. I've not noticed any relationship to distance filter and Scene's stability.

As always you should send dmp files to [email protected]. If you have any idea of what might have caused the problem just write it in the mail. We will have a look at it.
