Hehe
When you look at the cost of the components it seems fairly expensive just for the task of pushing a single button, but then you go out on an important project and struggle to do something as simple as starting a scan and it all seems worth the cost quickly. Total cost if you wanted to DIY ~$100 if you already have a soldering iron and the necessary skills
Nano Receiver:

Micro Servo:

Transmitter:

Random old micro usb cable $0
3D printed servo horn extension $?
We used a 1 inch piece of heat shrink tubing as the extension in the first take which also worked fine.

Well worth the price if it works as well as your video indicates. I can think back to many instances where this would have been useful -brilliant!

Great solution!!
I really like the idea of tapping power from usb and the side setup.
If you needn’t a 5 channel transmitter a 3 channel car transmitter + receiver is probably cheaper, not sure if the receiver is so compact.
Thanks for sharing.

Love the creativity here, that paper clip actually registers as a finger press? ... I love it.. I was in a manhole yesterday on a ladder stretching down to push the green button and planning on climbing back up as fast as I could with the scanner almost directly below me. This would have come in very handy. Also the manhole had about a foot or two of water in it and got some strange results with the water surface.

Love this whole thread!!
When DIY fails, turn to Amazon... https://microbot.is/push/
Have not tried it, but inclined to. It seems the wi-fi actuation may not solve all problems, but the time delay could.
Or how about we just ask Faro to implement a time delay start feature???

Nice find! -the attachment to the scanner would need some additional thought.sreed wrote: ↑Thu Aug 09, 2018 5:48 pm Love this whole thread!!

Doesn't the Focus already have a time delay of sorts? Perhaps a longer 'time delay start' setting is all one needs?

Not to my knowledge but GRACIOUS that would be a nice feature. If such a setting has been available all along i'd be very embarrassed.

Re: Faro remote - proof of concept
Well that is a pretty neat gizmo. Bluetooth according to the website, but also has a timer feature. I am not aware of a timer feature on the Faro scanners, and would share in the embarrassment if it did. I think we have talked before about a simple "egg timer" type delay, so the operator can retreat before the scan. Of course, this really doesn't help us much on some projects where the scanner spends the better part of the day completely out of reach from human hands like when it is up on a bridge on our robot or hanging in an elevator shaft on a wire...in that case the RC type remote or WiFi are the only possibilities we can currently utilize.
Has anyone with the newer S series confirmed any improved WiFi reception as compared to the older models? I kind-of wonder if it would even make a difference in some cases since the reception is two-way with the mobile phone's Wifi potentially being the weak link. If I had new scanner in hand I could do a couple comparison test it.
