Re: Leica RTC360 Reality Capture Solution
Hi All,
I've not been here for ages but ...
If I could 'add my two cents', I was this year at HxGN LIVE!
This 3D Laser Scanner is pretty much awesome and game changer but that's good that is worth a lot:).
RTC 360 is great scanner but for the specific taks e.g. quick validation or as-built or great orthoplans based on the scan data.
Leica team makes life easier for 3D Laser Scanning world #DragDropDone!
best,
TG

I say this with no irony at all, those that know me and how much I use Twitter might not believe it....
Far too many hashtags associated with the RTC360. Please make one and just stick with it.

Re: Leica RTC360 Reality Capture Solution
Has anyone had any close encounter at Hexagon with this unit? I hear it is not out till July. Just wondering whether the RTC's 2M points per second were all used for the scan, or was 1M used for one scan and 1M for another scan to produce the "Auto-noise" reductuion in the processing of the scan.
The reason I ask is because Leica claimed that the backpack scanner was 360k points per second (180k per puck scanner) ,but an actual demo proved that only 180k were used for a scan and the other 180K puck scanner was used for stitching of the clouds with the SLAM technology not for defining the site. This made it unacceptable for our purposes at the time.
Also the introduction of the removeable USB 3 flashdrive/thumbdrives is a great idea.
Both scanner series require a "DOUBLE DOWNLOAD" unless your going to connect your P-series directly to your computer (which I guess it allows?)
P series to Drive > Drive to computer
BLK360 to iPAD > iPAD to ReCAP
BLK360 to Reg 360/Cyclone
BLK360 to Computer via BLK Data Manager (Still have not gotten this to work on a desktop with a USB3 plug in WiFi adapter

Re: Leica RTC360 Reality Capture Solution
Actually up to 4 million points per second .. one high power pulse and one lower power .. for black vs white surface pick up. As Greg Walsh put it - "HDR Lidar".
There is a table floating around - different speeds have different ranges etc - so 2 million points per second high def scans get you 65m .. the medium and low res use 1 million points a second to 130m - from memory. The datasheet or manual will no doubt show this.
The double scan feature is exactly that - instead of a 180 degree rotation of the scan head - it keeps going for 360.
Double images are also in the works for noise removal in both cloud and imagery - therefore correctly coloured clouds.
The USB (custom leica only which is not a bad thing .. sort of .. assuming no price gouging) is direct download.
It is pretty damn cool .. I did a couple of scans in a room with the ipad .. walked out and around the corner and did another one - no overlap - and it was pretty much in the right place. Did another one in the doorway - added the links and - done.
Only thing I can't get over - the tilt sensor. I floated the idea of an additional accessory - a plug in compensator - there are ports on the bottom of the thing - doesn't seem like too much of a stretch to add. How many more years has the P40 got? Do I buy a P40 for not a whole lot more - or wait 2 years (say) for the "P360". The live rego on the RTC is no doubt awesome .. but would probably still need/want a total station or other compensator-enabled scanner hanging around for control .. and Register Field (ipad app) is to apparently going to support BLK and P's - no timeline given.
If you had a P40 and this thing together - be kind of epic - especially if the rego app is talking to both of them .. but not exactly a cheap deployment!

Re: Leica RTC360 Reality Capture Solution
Yeah whats going on with that? 3 minutes? Can someone with Leica confirm this is correct?
If you compare the specs overall with say, and S70 from Faro. They are all about the same except the S70 has 19 second level. I think the S70 is a pretty nice machine, so I take that as all positives for the RTC, mind the leveling.
We are testing tomorrow, will try to share results/thoughts if possible.

Re: Leica RTC360 Reality Capture Solution
James,
Or you walked out and returned to the initial place to repeat the scan?
Thanks
So, how long does a full dome scan take at this rate and what is the end resolution of the cloud (as in, spacing at 10meters)?jamesworrell wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 12:24 am Actually up to 4 million points per second .. one high power pulse and one lower power .. for black vs white surface pick up. If there is no overlap how do you know it was pretty much in the right place?jamesworrell wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 12:24 am It is pretty damn cool .. Re: Leica RTC360 Reality Capture Solution
Again from memory .. 3mm 6mm and 12mm spacing at 10m.
1 min for hdr photos
Fastest was 26 secs .. but closer to 1 min by the time it spun up etc. Think 'worst' time was ~ 4 mins including photos.
Ipad app showed location of scan .. link added tweaked the location maginally after I did one with overlap in between and added the link.

Re: Leica RTC360 Reality Capture Solution
Sounds great for some applications. What does the full package run? I would like a demo.
