videosoftware - point cloud animation

Post by MalteHC »

Hi all

We are doing some videos of our collected point clouds, to show our customers the level of detail we capture.
At the moment we use ReCap and that gives us a desent result, but does anyone use something else and is there any better software out there, for this?

What scanner are you using? We use Leica and use Leica software. I am sure all the assorted companies offer some sort of solutions for this.

I should have mentioned if you create a pointcloud in PTS you can use https://datumtechsolutions.com/collecti ... r-software

to create super cool videos. It pretty simple to do and I can help walk you through it.

If you are familiar with Sketchup, you can render video with all your captured point cloud details using Undet for Sketchup

The video recording tool in Jetstream Viewer is pretty good. It would require a JSV or LGS point cloud exported from Cyclone or Register 360.

The only open source point cloud animator I have used is CloudCompare.
If you can move to subscription based I'd recommend looking at Arena4D or Pointools.

If I remember correctly you can do videos with the free basic Arena Data Studio, but not animation.
Anyway you can test it activating the trial.

Indeed. The free version allows you to create HD videos of point clouds, measurements and 3D models at 25fps.

If you want to get more adventurous, then you'll need a paid for license.. this will unlock the full animator which allows you to individually move items within the video, crop them, change their properties and have many more output options including 360 spherical video.
