I've scanned a 90,000 Bbl tank to prepare a Gauge Report. I'm wondering if there is any software available to aid in the creation of the Gauge Table. I need to factor internal deadwood, floating roof displacement, etc...
I'm currently extracting the necessary information and creating a spreadsheet to calculate a Capacity Table. It seems there would be software available to expedite and simplify this process.

Re: Oil Tank Strapping Software
You could try using 3D Reshaper. It will allow you to make a 3D mesh of the tank, which you can use to produce planar sections. The planar sections can then be used to work out an area at each level taken, including deadwood.
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

I think also all the other established point cloud meshing / re-engineering tools should work. Geomagic, Rapidform and Polyworks for example.

Of course, there are several meshing packages out there but I only have experience with ReShaper.

Greg
I remember hearing about these reports at the 2008 Leica HDS conference, but have not done much research into what is required. Could you expand a little on each of the componenet you require, i.e. what is deadwood, floating roof displacment etc. I may be able to assist with some simple programs with a little modification of the unfurl program.

Re: Oil Tank Strapping Software
We have developed our own software and bespoke solution to this issue. We have received laser scan data from clients in Nigeria, India and even some other posters on this forum. Our strapping tables take into account internal "deadwood" etc...

I am involved in a similar project now. Since the ships geometry changed along all 3 axis, the best approach to understand the shape of the boat`s internal spaces in humble opinion would be to have sections along all 3 axis then have it exported to Rhino or Reshaper to generate the accurate 3D model.
