P20 + GNSS antenna

Post by MalteHC »

Hi all

I have seen somene who has put an GNSS antenna on the top of an Leica P20 scanner.
Has anyone tried this and what is experience with this?
How do you calculate the registration? First a local system, that you translate onto the RTK points, or do you give the RTK positions a low weight in the software?

Not sure whether the TPS series handles are exactly the same as the P20 (They're similar) but there was a handle that held a smart antenna on top of a Leica TPS that could be clipped on to the Scanner. You could then use Netwrk RTK (RTN) and get a position for the scanner (you'd have to know the separation between the Smart Antenna ref plane and the center of the scanner to get an accurate position of the scanner head). Then take the Smart Antenna off and get another back-site control point with it on a pole or tripod and then use the Survey Traverse mode on the P20 to START the scan setup sequence. I'm wondering whether you could then proceed with just cloud to cloud using targets and when in the registration mode in the software pick the First scan as the reference scan that the others are built upon. Then at the last scan possibly tie into another RTK collected point? You would definitely need to weight the RTK points lighter since the accuracy of those scanners is much greater than RTK, especially RTN.
