Was this meshed in Artec Studio or Geomagic software?
Good question -one for Artec to answer.
The general answer will be "yes, Artec Ray comes with Artec Studio" :)

This particular 3D mesh was created by our team - the original plane was 3D scanned by Artec Product Manager and our 3D scanning specialist, they both spent some time in this museum, placing Ray on a tricky combination of tripods, so it will reach the plane from all angles and position, while the plane was hanging high above under the ceiling :)

The most surprising factor was the manikins, as they are not seen "from below" while scanning and we discovered them only after we started the post-processing. Overall we used Artec Studio + 3D Systems Design X for processing, additionally ZBrush was used to model the windshield.

Looks like a very interesting product! ;)
Any chances we could get some raw scans as sample data to evaluate the data quality?

We're currently publishing 3D models, made with Artec Ray (https://www.artec3d.com/3d-models/indus ... turing#ray), they're available for download and give an idea of what Artec Ray is capable of.
The request to provide the raw point cloud data is an interesting one, thanks for idea! I'll check, whether we can share it, and will keep you updated! :)

As promised, I've searched for an interesting project with Artec Ray point cloud data found this one, that we can share: our team used Artec Ray to 3D scan a car in the end of December (we scanned several cars for one of our projects that time, so we can share this particular one).
Please check the attached screenshots.
There are 19 point clouds in total (raw data, without any triangulation algorithms applied), Design X *.xrl project size is around 1 Gb.

I can load it somewhere on DropBox, if you are still willing to play with the data, so I'm looking forward to your reply :)

Hi,
I still would love to get my hands on the data.
Would it be possible to get it in .e57, .ptx or similiar, so that it can be opened by a wider range of 3D-software?
Also, just out of curiosity, did you treat the surface of the car with a matte coating?

Thanks so much.
Best,
Arie.

Hi,

I am sorry for delay in replying, here are three sample point clouds from a scanning session of a Smart car (in BTX format).
DropBox links: Some software might ask for dimensions and measurement units during point cloud import (for example, Design X does, if you just drag and drop BTX file there). Here they are to give you an idea about the units recalculation:

Additionally, below are some screenshots of how these three sample point clouds look like:

Regarding the question about coating:
Our team scanned several Smart cars in this particular project, which took place in December 2017. The data I am sharing in this post is from the car with sprayed glasses, it was among one of the project requirements.

Let me know, if you have any questions, I'll be glad to help :)

I'd like to know what prep was done on the car here? We have a Surphaser (Trimble FX, and currently for sale!? ;-) ) which while is an older unit still delivers excellent scan data over ridiculous distances. but.... hates hates hates black and very dark. How does the Ray fair with black. The car and the plane both have dark rubber tyres and the car dark grilles and transparent glass etc. it would be very useful to prospective customers to see what condition they have to prepare the scanning object...
