Hand Held Scanner advice

Post by cavallino »

Hi everyone im new to the world of laser scanners. Im in need of some advice im looking for a portable scanner in order to take head scans. I dont need to scan top of head just need to scan the ears nose and eyes. I need the scanner to be dimensionally accurate. The resolution of the scan is not important. I want to be able to put the scan on cad program as well. Cost wise I don't want to spend thousands.I would be grateful for any advice possible. Many thanks.

Dimensionaly accurate but resolution not a problem. An artec leo will be portable or a simple photogrametry rig would be easy especially if you want color. really depends on what you need to do with the data after.

Pm me if you need additional help

Artec Space Spider if you want nice details and just the head. The Leo or Eva will be more versatile if you plan to capture larger objects.

Structure sensor from Occipital is a couple of hundred pounds and it gets the job done in real time.

Thanks for advice guys artec machine is quite abit more expensive. I don't need any nice details or colour just something I can transfer on to cad program. All I need is the meshwork of the headscan if that's the right terminology. This is all new for me.

Thanks I had a look at creaform its just too high end and cost is quite high. Is there anything under 3000. I just need a mesh model. Is under 3000 an unrealistic aim for basic laser scanner.
Many thanks guys

I don't know if they can still be found but the Primesense Carmine could be used with Faro Scenect for a course model at one point in time.

DotProduct DPI-8 as well...lower cost compared to Eva but not sure if it has the accuracy you need.

Hi Warren,

SCENE Capture has replaced the old SCENECT. I could be found free of cost at the FARO 3D App Center https://3d-apps.faro-europe.com/product/scene-capture/.
It supports as well the Carmine sensors as other on the market like Intel Real Sense etc.

Best regards,
