BLK 360 - How are you using it?
Hello All,
New to the forum and recently had my BLK 360 Delivered, we are currently using it to capture commercial space but what other use cases does this device have? I've read lots of other forums / Leica's sites and I'm aware of a few.. But I'm always curious to hear from industry professionals on new ways to use a product and ways that this product can help improve another verticals scanning process.
Cheers,

Re: BLK 360 - How are you using it?
So far I have seen sales into: Public Safety/Forensics, renovation companies, plant (asset management mainly), BIM, AEC, Food/Beverage companies, piping design firms and some heritage recording organisations... to name a few. Lots of sales into various sectors of education also - it will be nice to see what they do with the system.
Always great to see new examples, images, fly-throughs etc.

Re: BLK 360 - How are you using it?
Great topic.
It will be interesting to see not only the types of projects they are being used on but also how it is being deployed differently to other scanners and what people are doing with it.
I guess also who is operating it would be interesting. Is it just the same users as other scanners on the forum here or are first time users picking it up in the field as I assume was one of the main intentions of the product.
PS, thanks for not listing CIM as one of your examples above!

Paul, I'm sure some of those are brand new customers to the world of scanning, but are there any completely new/niche/unexpected sectors of the market you have seen it placed into?pburrows145 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 04, 2017 6:59 pm So far I have seen sales into: Public Safety/Forensics, renovation companies, plant (asset management mainly), BIM, AEC, Food/Beverage companies, piping design firms and some heritage recording organisations... to name a few. Without divulging too much, yes, we are seeing a high uptake with the BLK360 with new users who have never scanned before. I find this very exciting.

Me too. everybody is flying drones, mapping, scanning and do not have a clue what they are doing.
They even don't understand the principle of self-control, they get results and send them of to their client without checking if what they have measured is possible.

I suppose in one selfish way it's good. People like myself that have been around since the invention of laser scanners will always have work, even if It may be fixing others problems sometimes. I just hope the industry doesn't get a bad name because of people that do not know what they are doing.

Re: BLK 360 - How are you using it?
You can explain the nuances though like the others can't. The new reports feature in Register 360 is pretty sweet and does a lot to produce confidence for your client and yourself. Haven't seen that in the solution from ReCAP/Autodesk. As a surveyor that is more important than showing a pretty fly-through-but the latter is what a client wants many times.Matt Young wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2017 1:56 pm I suppose in one selfish way it's good. The hard part isn't collecting the data, but putting it together and correctly extracting data from it and putting it in a usable form.
Until that happens people are just collecting a "3D photograph/Hologram" that looks good and lets you experience being in a scene-visually.
