Box of Spheres but no instructions

Post by syntrak »

Hey guys,

So I recently purchased a used X330 and it came with a box of 5 spheres, magnets, washers, wire legs etc. But no instructions!

Does anyone have a guide for the correct use/assembly of these items?

It’s the Starter Kit in the black case.

Thanks in advance!

If it's the one I am thinking of, you also have the mini tripods with bent wire feet? I don't have that kit but have used it many times.

Perhaps a quick photo of some of the components so we can help?

Cheers,

Eugene

Yes that’s the one.the spheres also have magnets that are hard to remove, there’s some washers and a stack of circular magnets.

Sorry I don't have a kit here but this is what I remember:

1. Each of the spheres has a recessed magnetic base. There is a small cap with loop that you keep on there for protection.
2. You can put in the magnets on the base if you want to stick it directly to a metal object. The recessed bases don't work and aren't safe since they don't give direct contact.
3. The washers you could use on a post or wooden pole where you can screw or hammer a nail in. You then have a metal surface to attach the magnet to.
4. The mini tripods are simply placed at the bottom of the magnetic bases and you have to remove everything else from there since they affix themselves directly to the recessed magnet.
5. I think you get some checkered targets with the kit. They work pretty good. If you are using tape, fold the tape around the back of the targets because if you try to pull it off, it will pull part of the paper off. You can save and reuse them more often this way.
6. DO NOT TRY TO UNSCREW THE POSTS FROM THE SPHERES. Once you pull them off, they are not easily placed back on.
7. Most Important...don't drop the spheres! :-) Trust me, I know!

Otherwise, if the spheres because really dirty from use, you can always give them a quick coat of flat white primer. Wiping the spheres off with a damp rag as necessary keeps things nice and tidy.

Cheers,

Eugene

NO - NO! Feel free to drop them - repeatedly if necessary, and I would then be very happy to set you up with a set of 6 of my target spheres for a very reasonable price -

The tube of magnets when attached to the base are very hard to remove!

Hi syntrak!
Nice to hear that you have one of our products in your hand. ATS AB in Sweden manufactures the Starterkit III for FARO and it is a part of the wellknown Traceable 3D concept that enables you to deliver accurate and traceable 3D measurement data to the enduser. Further information is available at [www.traceable3d.com] and the instructions for the Starterkit III is attached below. Note these spheres are metrological devices and similar to prisms, they should be handled with care, ensuring that the calibration is maintained and within 1mm.

Less accurate rugged spheres are also available and they can be handled in the way described in the thread.

If you have problems to separate the extension magnets from the base, you can use the shortcircuit washer (with the string) as a lever in the slot on the side. Then easy to break it off.
If any further questions, you can contact us directly; support(at)ats.se

Many thanks for the valuable info.

The printed material/targets was missing from the box. Any suggestions for getting checkerboards/target stickers?

Thanks!
