Mounted lights on a Faro Scanner
Hi !
Last year, Eugene posted some very interesting photos of a lighting system he mounted on a Faro scanner, to get colors when scanning in a very dark environment :

Following on from this brilliant idea, I've designed a new mounting that i've 3D printed and mount on my Faro X130 HDR. I've mounted coaxial high-CRI led with external batteries that ensure more than 4 hours of continuious lighting and good color rendering.
Bertrand.

That looks awesome! Good work!
With your current setup, have you determined what the maximum distance is for collecting quality photos?

Hi Kyle,
Up to 4.5 meters, and with HDR x3, I have good quality. Beyond, I can see some noise starting to deteriorate the panorama.

Re: Mounted lights on a Faro Scanner
Results look fantastic. I think the real benefit of multiple small LEDs is that you get a very diffuse light and very nice results. I love the fact that you don't get any shadows as they are always cast away from the scanner.
Can you comment on the components and where you purchased them? how much to create a kit?
Really well done and thank you for sharing!

Re: Mounted lights on a Faro Scanner
I will be scanning some petroglyphs in smaller caves and attached 4 lumecube.com LED lights that have 10 brightness settings via smartphone app and wide angle spread and 1000 lumes max each.
I used simple metal straps I bent to the desired angle. I bought the straps at from a hardware store and attached them with Velcro.
So far I tested this seup in a dark bedroom at night with very good results.

Re: Mounted lights on a Faro Scanner
Excellent work - im sure if you made these available for purchase for other scanners, not just Faro it would be a very affordable addition to everyone's kit bag when the integrated camera is required!

Re: Mounted lights on a Faro Scanner
Really great work - that looks like a very well engineered solution. Please let us know if/when you intend to offer a commercial solution, either for the complete kit, or even just for the 3D model so we could get the frame printed ourselves locally and add our own electrics.
