Aerial LiDAR with FARO scanner
Trials with FARO Focus X330 scanner going well strapped beneath heavy lift UAV following months of trials and tribulations! Almost ready to go live with project work for all those missing rooftop scans etc to fill in the gaps...
Has anybody had any issues with same set up?

Re: Aerial LiDAR with FARO scanner
Mark, are you trying to perform static scans or helical?
Sorry I can't help much at this point, I am just a bit curious.

Re: Aerial LiDAR with FARO scanner
I have been curious how the scanner compensates(?) for movement of the unit while the drone is in the air.
Is there different software to assemble a moving cloud like a scene/scenect hybrid?

Re: Aerial LiDAR with FARO scanner
Mark,
My Focus 120 had the Beta version of the WiFi and the range was not that great. I did have to be careful which side of the scanner I was standing on when it was 15 meters in the air. The range is supposed to be better now but I would think that you might be able to exceed it with the scanner on a drone. Good luck and I wish you safe and soft landings.

Re: Aerial LiDAR with FARO scanner
Thanks for the replies and interest. This is going to turn out to be a real game changer over the multitude of photogrammetry UAV systems. After all, who wants to pay for a helicopter and expensive LiDAR systems, if you can find a decent gap in the weather?

Re: Aerial LiDAR with FARO scanner
I would love to see some test files. I like the drone idea, but not sure what the data would look like. Also wonder about the accuracy. Are you planning to use this for topo work?coastway wrote: ↑Sat Aug 16, 2014 3:01 pm Thanks for the replies and interest. Re: Aerial LiDAR with FARO scanner
We are investigating SLAM tech mounted to a Matrice 600. Using SLAM allows one to skip over the expensive airships with munitions grade IMUs and RTK GPS. Stormbee looks like a great solution, albeit an expensive one from what I understand.
