James, I think you might have been doing something wrong. Fine scanning targets on the P20 takes about 1/3 the time of the C10 (or less)... perhaps contact Charlie/Steven to check you were doing it correctly.Jamesrye wrote: For complex plant type work, where targets can be automatically extracted from the point cloud - the scanner offers great time savings. Sadly though, if you fine scan targets - it takes as long (if not longer) than on the C10. In my case we did not see a massive increase in productivity as fine scanning the targets was taking 6-7 minutes.

Re: P20 Feedback
Leica were unable to supply me with 6" tilt and turn black and white targets and the company we hired targets from incorrectly supplied us with 3" tilt and turn targets. I think it took longer to acquire the 3" targets because I was using the video image in bright sunlight and they were quite hard to see/find in the video image (the 6 inchers would have stood out better). I think this explains my perception of the time taken to acquire targets.
The Leica support is really good - knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, so no complaints there
Leica also serviced our C10 recently and the turn around was excellent.
I am a Leica fan but recently the Z+f 5010c has caught my attention - mainly because of the HDR camera! Increasingly I have clients expressing a strong desire for good quality imagery - currently we use an external camera, but getting this to perfectly align with the point cloud is sometimes a challenge and is time consuming.

Re: P20 Feedback
I think they are both great scanners but I would say the point cloud quality goes to the P20, however the 5010C camera does produce very high quality images.
Both great scanners to use in the field!

Re: P20 Feedback
We are using p20.
+ Data is nice and moderately clean, comparing with HDS6xxx series scanners.
- Pictures are bad. Don't know if we are usuing it wrong?

Re: P20 Feedback
I actually had no camera issues with the P20. These are what my point clouds looked like:

Re: P20 Feedback
Hi Chris...
I hate to say it, but those images aren't the best .
Have you seen the image quality from the Faro X-330 or Z&F 5010c ?
I don't understand why Leica cant improve their camera quality.
Regards,
Mike.

Re: P20 Feedback
Hi Mike,
I agree with you, we have been using P20 for about a year now and no satisfaction with Camera quality and not comparable to FARO and 5010c. In limited angle shots you may get some good shots by adjusting the exposure and white balance in new firmware, but the headache starts when scanning outdoor with direct sunlight. Whereas, I have done no effort for getting excellent shots even in direct sunlight with FARO.
Cheers
Majid

Re: P20 Feedback
We have been using the P20 for over a year now and would definitely agree with the comments regarding the internal camera. The new firmware has made a significant improvement to the overall quality, however the acquisition time is still pretty slow. I think that if you are really concerned about image quality I would go with a Nodal Ninja 3 with a DSLR using HDR images, image collection is about 2 minutes doing the full dome. Albeit there is more processing involved though!
Another plus point for the P20 is the battery configuration, We haven't got to the stage where we have run down all the batts in a single day, something that was a regular occurence with our older 6100. No swapping batteries around in the middle of the night too as all 4 just slot right into a regular leica tablet charger.
The data is generally pretty good, we have noticed that there seems to be quite a lot of bleed around edges but it is acceptable in most cases. We trialled the HDS7000 for a short while and found the data to be very good, however the HDS6100 b/w targets were not compatible as they were too reflective.
I would suggest doing some trials to see what works for you before commiting.

I think his images have gamma correction turned on and are images of the cloud-burnt pics.mike annear wrote: I don't understand why Leica cant improve their camera quality.

I wonder if Chris could re-post a image of the blended multi-image, or the cloud with gamma off for comparison?
