Dear Jason,

we will present shortly more detail. Short preview: It is future development of this tripod.

http://shop.laserscanning-europe.com/2- ... rimble-TX5

You can use this tripod for both sides scanning up / down "2 Way". For normal using you have 5/8 and 3/8 adapter`s. For down side scanning is a special adapter plate for save handling. It works by 1 meter length pipe piece and you can click it together and fix it. The movement is done by strong cog wheel (gear wheel). It is easy to handle and transport. It have also "gear box" for use drilling machine.

Special adapter allows to use it by different scanner types (FARO Focus, Trimble TX5 and Leica and ZF Scanner as well) with the plate. Other scanner and devices are also possible.

We will present in next days more information on our website. Pricing is approx. 1000 Euro depend from adapter and 450 Euro for the additional trolley.

Regards.. ..Eric

Dear All,

now we have same more picture and information to this new tripod.

A tripod - flexible as never before: Raise your scanner into the upward or send it down a hole. The 2-way telescope tripod allows scanning in a height of 4.00m (157.5 in) and safe overhead scanning 4.50 m (177.2 in) below the earth' surface.

Depending on your measuring task, the basic tube with the support plate and the 5/8 inch connection can be connected to the tripod upright or head first. The additional prolongation tubes are connected to the previous tube each time. As a result, you get an almost arbitrarily extendable rod.

The 3/8 inch adapter included in the delivery allows using the tripod with FARO Focus3D and Trimble TX5.

The 3D safety adapter is applied for overhead applications. With this product, you can easily and safely scan overhead. The special adapter allows an easy assembly and safe support. The best protection of your valuable measuring instruments.

Developed and produced in Germany.

Dear Jason,

unfortunately not directly. The HDS 4500 and similar the ZF scanner have a camera mount system for manfrotto tripods. I don’t know is there a stabile adapter for upside down using for HDS 4500 Scanner to leica tribach system? The adapter allows leica tribach systems and faro plate. But there are a lot of opening in it. It can be, that it is a smarter solution to fix this adapter plate directly on the bottom of HDS 4500. Is this possible?

My boss approached me with this question. The solution we came up with, which has never been tested: use a tripod similar to this one by SECO http://www.surveying.com/Products/Bipod ... 218-02-FLY We chose this one, because we already own it. Use a regular prism rod something like this http://www.lengemann.us/secocolletlockprismpoles.aspx We have several of these with three sections. Next I had an adapter machined that goes from the 5/8" thread of the survey rod to the 3/8" thread for the scanner mount.

Put the rod in the tripod, attach the FARO to the rod, position the contraption over the hole, and lower away. I can concede to the desire to add a rope to the base somewhere, in case the rod slips in your hand as you're lowering it.

I had one of these tripods in my office when I worked at CR Kennedy in Perth last year. It is quite a solid piece of kit. I sold a P20 to a customer and the tripod was thrown in as a freebie. However if you contacted Todd Smoker at CR Kennedy in Perth he could possibly get one. It went for about $2500.00 (Australian Dollar). You also don't need a drill, it comes with a winder which has a pretty smooth action. :-)

Cheers

HI everyone, last post was in 2014, but I think much of us had some experience more recently in upside down scanning. What do you think is the best option to scan upside down in a manhole using a tripod/construction for scanning up to let's say 10 m.
