Sphere targets c10
Hi,
I would like to do very precize registration in tunnel scanning (monitoring deformations with C10). For monitoring fixed points I would like to measure sphere targets. I choose this variant, becouse of the limited and dangerous walking in the tunnel.
Has anyone tested the sphere targets:

I think that you will get very good results using spheres with the C10. I think you will have to fit the sphere targets manually in each scan but the fit should be good.
If you don't see that there is nothing, then you are kidding yourself.

We had a client who has been recently monitor a tunnel with a C10 but they used 6" tilt and turn targets with the following 5/8 thread wall anchors.
Using Spheres may have made the site work easier but longer in the office.

Flexi Sphere from our shop are compromise between accuracies and long term using.
if accuaries the main issues, then is better to use carbonic spheres. Most of plastic spheres have issues by temperature difference.
Carbonic spheres (gfk material) did have this problem. It have accuaries by approx 0.2 - 0.4 mm in roundness and it quit stabile by temperature changing. You can use also our adapter and prism from the shop.
Shoud be good enough.

C10 can acquire sphere targets in the field. No need to post process if you do it correctly.

Hi Phil,
Are the 5/8" wall anchor systems something that you are selling on your website as I couldn't see them when I checked?
We currently use a mixture of spheres and tilt and turns, but Cyclone quite often struggles with spherical targets especially when close to the scanner, hence looking to use more tilt and turns wherever possible.

Hey Pat,
Here's my entire target workflow.
Image/Scan 360 at needed resolution.
In scanworld, pick all of one type of target (so either all spheres or all HDS, etc...)
In scanner control - Scanner control - acquire targets - acquire spheres from pickpoints.

You can also define sphere targets onboard using the 'Manage' option from the main menu, then 'targets'. This means you can define the diameter and then carry out a target scan in the field as you would do with HDS targets.
Contact me or a local support rep if you need assistance setting this up.
FYI, this is also where you can define offsets so you don't have to (re)measure the instrument height/target height each time for a traverse/know backsight routine.
