I was carrying the ss2 box the other day and i forgot just how weighty that was!!

Although that was definitely a breeze compared to carrying the 2500 and the battery!

But at least if you had one in each hand you were quite well balanced!!!

Myself and one companion had to carry the scanner and batter about 1.4km down a cliff and along a beach at Happisburgh in East Anglia for a few days! I can still feel the pain!

Just and Update, well for the last year work has been under-way scanning on World War Z and thats taken all my scan time, see http://www.2h3d.co.uk/ for the team and its work

Also been working on my own other projects as well but that's mum etc.

Good news is there are a lot more payers now scanning film sets, props humans and so one, even some post - Pre-vis houses are getting their own scanning kit as well. I know the Guys working on the Hobbit have been having fun with LIDAR kits.

The new scan to VFX Pipline seems to be Geomagic + Topogun + Maya (max) so makes life simpler than working with the software that comes with the scanning it, some of which can be very hard to work with.

File formats Ply, MA and OBJ seem to be doing well and they can import into most 3d.

Things are looking good in this area of use for LIDAR/3d scanning.

If you have been working on some thing and you can tell why not post and let us know.

I would love to bring years of experience to the film industry, if like most, I could find a way in...

What are the final deliverables required by films/ games industry ?
only 3d models ?
Are they sometimes using directly pointclouds ?
