Prepering Printed Black&White targets!

Post by maitham »

Hi all,

anyone has experience with preparing targets manually?
there is a file installed with Leica Cyclone, called "HDS Black&White target.pdf"
Iam just thinking to print it out and then find someway to make the paper flat and strong enough to hold a small Magnetic piece in order to paste it on the metallic stuff while scanning.

Thanks in Advanced

We are in the process of testing a number of direct-to substrate printed plastic targets using 4mm Coroplast, 3mm PVC, 0.03" Styrene, and 3M adhesive vinyl. The first test result showed that they are a little shiny and would get washed out when the angle is too direct, so we are testing some other printing processes.

When we get the material worked out, we are going to develop some mounting techniques, such as gluing magnets to the back, or mounting them on lawn stakes.

My goal is to make a reusable, waterproof serialized checkerboard target for survey control that will not sag and warp over time in the Georgia summer humidity!

Also, TargetMill is a great application for printing targets for survey control. You can download it at www.target-mill.com

This may not be the answer you are looking for, but I have them made on a magnetic strips and cut to size 10x10. Then the company makes the target out of white vinyl and a flat black vinyl, done.

We use them all the time. Painters tape and tape them to walls, duct, equipment, pretty much anything flat. We do not have them laminated to be saved we just print off as many as we need per scan and a bunch extra. Easy to throw them up everywhere and then cyclone registers them very nicely even at a distance.

We print them onto self-adhesive paper and stick them onto magnetic films (?) or on plastic-sheets.

If using waterproof paper, they resist normal use very long time ;)

Correct me if i'm wrong. but i think reg360 does not support targets in unstructured data like blk2go, blkarc, blk2fly nor trk, pegasus.
