Leica Cyclone FIELD 360 Tablet & Cases

Post by steves01x »

Hi all,

Although i am really anti tablet when on site (something else to carry, die, fail, drop etc) there have been some jobs recently where i was playing around with the app on my Samsung S21 and it did work really well. Simple things like naming the job and setting the scanner off when up on the telescopic. Then i started matching scans when scanning on a job that was on one level, good access etc and it really did do a good job.

I have tried iPad Pro but its too big and far too over priced purely to put some scans together in the field.

What is everyone else using and what is the best case/neck strap?

Also, as it would be sim free if i a log in when at home on wifi before connecting to the scanner to create the job - the app will still work and be logged in next day?

Thanks

I'm right there with you on tablets at the jobsite. I generally use my phone and have a PopSocket on the back to hold it. We have an iPad Pro 11 but I hardly use it in the field. We have an Otter case and a tripod mount for it. Either way, it doesn't need to be connected to the internet, but I think it does need GPS iirc that's why our older iPad wouldn't connect. I could be wrong about that, it's been a long time.

We use a cheap Samsung Galaxy A7 tablet. But we do suffer drop outs on some sites. Cyclone Field 360 is also a bit funky at times (feels like it's still in Beta). The absolute best on site registration that I have used was on the Trimble X7. Puts the others to shame - though I've only tried the Z+F, Leica and Trimble software. Using the X7, we were actually able to do a final reg on the tablet on site. It was great. But the RTC won out for us in terms of imagery and speed.

Mostly, I don't bother with Cyclone Field 360 at all unless I want geotags. REG360 sorts it out mostly.

we use Tripletek 8 Pro.

Super strong, battery is good for a full 14h shit, cold weather, rain, hot, dust all good. And you got a wrist strap so you can wear it like a watch. you hand are free.

I use a Samsung Active Tab3 with case and strap. Its rugged water proof and seems to handle most that I throw at it, Also my Phone which is great when I have 2 scanners running I can log in to both scanners and see the progress. Would love to be able to create a master project and create a link between the 2 tablets
