what is the best way to remove edge artifacts in real works? in scene it was really easy but i ended up purchasing real works as i find it alot more powerful in other aspects. Just cant figure out the filtering.
I am scanning a couple miles of concrete railway trough that has chamfered edges so i am getting alot of noise.
please see photos
thanks

Re: Best way to remove Edge Artifacts in TRW
I have them both. First I filter the data in Scene, export .fls files, import them into RW, register in RW, return registration to Scene.
Hope it helps (if you have both licenses).

Re: Best way to remove Edge Artifacts in TRW
thats what i was doing and worked great but did not want to spend 20,000$ on software for both. was hoping there was a way in TRW so i dont have to buy both, thats really all i would ever use scene for. Maybe theres another more cost effective software that just does filtering?

Maybe you can try to sample the point cloud removing very low intensity points? Not sure if those edges artifacts have a low intensity... Usually, I use that kind of method to remove smoke or steam that has been scanned by the laser.

Another option would be to try Cloud Compare.
It's free and has quite a few filtering options. Though I don't use it, so I couldn't walk you through how. There are many tutorials though

Dear Nino,
just a quick technical question: can you update the Scene project or individual fls scans in RealWorks?
All the best
Daniel

Re: Best way to remove Edge Artifacts in TRW
To be honest, I don't remember how registration info (.rmx) is written in RW (I belive based on initial import to RW). I don't import registration to Scene If my registration is not 100% tight in RW.
Best practice is to use free scantaxi plugin Transformation Remover (free), than you have no problem with single scan or cluster reimport from RW to Scene
Hope it helps.
