What kind of tribrach would everyone recommend for a Faro s350 with a benro tripod.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Tribrach Recommendation
Leica GDF321 on proper surveying tripod like SECO Trimax preferrably
Leica GDF121 on smaller carbon fiber tripods like Gitzo or Velbon preferrably.
Do not use the GDF321 or similarly constructed tribrach on the carbon fiber tripods, the steel plate will deform over time because it is not properly supported at the corners when mounted on the CF tripods, leading to slop in the bearing seats.
The GDF121 is suitable for that application due to the cast base which is affixed to the lower housing with machine screws and won't deform when not properly supported.
I don't recommend the optical plummet tribrach models unless absolutely needed, we find that the accidental installation on the CF tripod adapters screws into the plummet glass and breaks it.
Teach your crews to properly use and maintain the tribrachs and tripods in high volume use, it's not rocket science, and the most common reason for equipment getting flagged is folks exceeding the travel limits of the screws.
It's worth considering that for Laser Scanning, you will put 50-100x the use cycles as traditional total station surveying equipment, so you will break and wear out inferior equipment rapidly.
SECO Trimax tripods are expensive, but we still use the ones we bought starting out 7 years and 1100 sites ago, and they've endured temps from -45C to +65C and tens of thousands of scans without failure.
When we bought some cheaper SitePro Salamander tripods, they all failed and broke within one year. They are only suitable for spheres/prisms/backsite usage. Buy once cry once.

Re: Tribrach Recommendation
+1 for a real tripod and a good tribach. I never scanned without one.
Many will say it is a pain inside but use a trolley. The only advantage a gitzo or benro have is when doing stairs.
When i do stairs i use these

Great, thank you for the input! I am having a hard time finding where to buy the Leica GDF 121. If you could put in a link as to where you get yours that would be great. Thanks again!

Re: Tribrach Recommendation
Why do you want to put your S350 on a tribrach, are you shooting long scans for really long range?Cvandermeer wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 5:41 pm What kind of tribrach would everyone recommend for a Faro s350 with a benro tripod.

If you have some control, having your scanner "perfectly" leveled is overkill isn't it? You are running a FARO not an RTC360
