ATX 3.0 POWER SUPPLY

Post by dhirota »

As I am looking at building another newer PC workstation with PCIe 5, DDR5 components I thought I had sufficient spare PSUs (2X 1000W, 1X 1300W, or 1X 1600W G2 EVGA Gold 80) to pick from. I just discovered that maybe I should have a designated ATX3.0 PSU with the proper connectors to use for the new workstation.

I'm not a huge watcher of tech channel YouTube but Gamers Nexus and JayzTwoCents have some good content regarding ATX 3.0 and the potential issues people may have.

I browse the channels occasionally and came across what I'm guessing is the same video, here for those that haven't seen it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6FiGEAp928 Not sure I'd be an early adopted of the new nVidia cards, certainly not as a retrofit for an existing workstation.

This is why we always go for custom builts rather than DIY...we don't have enough knowledge to not make an expensive mistake.

You're lucky to have quite a number of good custom builders across the UK who price reasonably for their work, certainly a good way to go where that's an option. Not so much option here in Dublin, plus if I'm honest, I quite enjoy the build process. There are also a number of forums for self builders where people will may parts recommendations and check your own build list for mistakes and inefficiencies.

Yeah, the company we use are only a small premium over and above what we could buy the parts for, plus the work (as well as the parts obviously) is warrantied.

I'm going to have a crack at building a system for myself, but that's a bit different to speccing and building a £10k+ workstation with someone elses money. :D
