Greetings!

Our Kohera3D Laser Scanning Solutions team is here to provide support, respond to questions, and hear your suggestions.

About Us

We’ve been actively involved in 3D Laser Scanning since 2001, determining in 2006 that we needed to develop software solutions to better utilize the phenomenal data produced by 3D Laser Scanners.

Our Kohera3D software modules were developed by engineers to effectively utilize point cloud data in the CAD environment.

Available Software Modules

• Kohera3D Spectrum; segmentation/classification of point cloud models to work through the “Blob” of point cloud data sets.
• Kohera3D Piping; feature extraction that generates design points and center lines for piping programs such as Plant3D, Cadworx, etc.
• Kohera3D Mesh; creates textured meshes to be used in 3D modeling programs.

Sharing some screenshots of a recent project where we scanned a tight area below deck to capture the Peak Aft Line for a BWTS.

Using Kohera3D Ultimate Software we were able to isolate the pipe (yellow) from the surrounding scan data and extract the center lines (red) of the isolated pipe for as-built pipe routing :like:

Center lines were exported and brought into Plant3D for modeling, tie-ins, and creating isometrics.

How long has Kohera been around, this seems like a big piece of the puzzle that has been missing for me a quick way to 3d mesh something without paying cloud credits or recap credits or whatever they are called now.

Does anyone use Kohera from a Faro laser scanner into AutoCAD workflow?

Hi John,

Kohera3D has been actively involved in laser scanning since 2001. We own several FARO laser scanners and were the first U.S. company to order and take delivery of the FARO Focus3D. https://www.kohera3d.com/about/ Our software became publicly available in 2016 with the release of Kohera3D Piping.

I encourage you to download a free trial of Kohera3D Ultimate https://www.kohera3d.com/promos/kohera3d-ultimate/

Workflow:
  • Mesh exports are OBJ file format which is not directly supported by AutoCad at this time. Autodesk suggests converting OBJ files with Autodesk 3DS Max. From Autodesk's knowledge and support - How-to-import-a-obj-file
  • Piping: Kohera3D pipe centerlines export in the AutoCad supported DXF file format.
  • Segmentation: Custom point cloud selections can be exported as E57 or TXT. Using mostly the latter, we import the selection into ReCap, then bring the rcp or rcs files into AutoCad.

Jon

One thing to mention - with Kohera you can visualize Cyclone registrations respectively the links between scans in a way similar to Register360.
Used it a year ago, and even tho I was using the free version, Jon helped me out a lot, awesome support!
