Verity

Post by landmeterbeuckx »

Hi Guys,

Besides scanning i do a lot of construction staking and others. Now that all architectural stuff is getting more and more difficult to get because of low-ballers i tend to expand and move to construction staking - verifying intermediate steps with scanning.

I know of Verity but want to hear some honest opinions from actual users. Over here revit or other models tend to be in a chosen coordinate system but never in what i need. Is aligning a cloud with a model an easy thing to do (in the field and in office)?

Or should i look at other software?

I can't really speak to Verity, but I've been playing around with Cyclone 3DR a bit lately and just today I was doing some steel analysis. It's SUPER simple to get a point cloud and model aligned, even when they're in different coordinate systems, or no coordinate system at all (like my case today). For my instance today, it is a simple as clicking 3 common points (in the approximate area) and the software will best fit. At that point, you can run all the analysis tools as you need to check tolerances/clearances/etc. I know 3DR will accept IFC and RVT models and a few other as well as most point cloud formats. I've been really liking 3DR other than the cost, haha.

I never tried Verity. I would love to know feedback of users.

I carry out this type of inspection with Faro's BuildIt. It is not as intuitive as other metrology software we use (Polyworks, SpatialAnalyzer...) but it supports BIM models and the result is reliable.

Is it easy to combine a scan and a model in different coordinate systems?

So, Verity plugs into Navisworks. So, you can either use the tools in Navis or in ReCap to transform either the scan or the model so that they align in Navisworks. Once they align there... you're good to go.

I'm sure one of our users can chime in with their experience. :-)

Happy to set up a demo or talk more any time. Just reach out!

Hi, sorry for delaying.
yes, you can create different types of coordinate systems and choose the one you want in each case.
You can also extract points from geometric entities to build the reference systems

Hi Kelly,

Can you also compare a pointcloud with an 2d dwg?
Is Navisworks required?

Cheers

We do all of our analytics in BuildIt. Works well and consistently but you will spend some time on making engineering-grade reports suitable for paying clients, particularly with one-off projects which are most of the opportunities in the industry. I've got a lot of tricks up my sleeve for making the reports really pop if you wanna PM me some time.
