Hi All,
On Wednesday we held a presentation for our clients about how we can go from 3D scanning a boat, to quick CAD Model, to interior design, to CNC Fabrication of the design concept.
I put this short video together for the event.
Regards,
Mike.

Re: From 3D scan to CNC
I have just about finished modelling the rest of the boat that we used for the quick demo.
Scanned with a Faro s70
Modelled in Rhino 3D
Rendered in Enscape.

Great job Mike! Now you can 3D print an entire boat
even bigger than in the video!

Re: From 3D scan to CNC
Thanks Bohdan,
I have modelled it as a "solid", not just a Surface model, so in theory it should just go straight into a 3D printer. We create solid models as it is easier for our clients who use Sketchup etc to work with the model.
It is more work, and takes a bit more planning, but luckily Rhino 3D has great Boolean Solid functions.

Re: From 3D scan to CNC
Hello Mike! What a beautiful boat, congrats! you should offer scan-to-BIM services online , I would definitely contact you.
Did you try doing a mesh model using the point cloud? we have had some clients that used the mesh model and imported it to sketch up to do a hybrid model (combining the CAD model and mesh model) and have a more photorealistic representation. The results are astonishing.
