Does anyone use or know of any sort of mobile app that can be used to take site notes when laser scanning?
Speed and flexibility are always a constant bedbug when scanning, and stopping every so often to take a note on a piece of paper gets cumbersome and the paper often gets misplaced.
With today's technology, and everyone always having a smartphone on them (I use mine to take photos, and take notes on a "stickynotes" app).
The notes soon get cluttered and are hard to interpret in the office (especially when dealing with scans ranging in the 1500 number!
Im envisioning some sort of customizable app where you can specify for example a Floor (eg 2nd Floor), then within that floor, you can specify an Area or Room. You can then add more rooms/areas and allocate the scan numbers to those rooms created.
The final output would be something like:
FLOOR [2] {Scans 126-155}
I
I_ _> Room[kitchen] {scans 126-130}
I_ _> Room[hallway] {scans 131-136}
I_ _> Room[bedroom1] {scans 137-140}
I_ _> Room[bedroom2] {scans 141-145}
I_ _> Room[Dining Area] {scans 146-155}
FLOOR [3] {Scans 156-165}
I
I_ _> Room[Loft] {scans 156-165}
FLOOR [EXTERNAL] {Scans 101-125}
I
I_ _> Room[North Elev] {scans 101-110}
I_ _> Room[East Elev] {scans 111-117}
I_ _> Room[South Elev] {scans 118-122}
I_ _> Room[West Elev] {scans 123-125}
If anyone knows of a similar app, or knows of someone who could develop such an app (for personal use) then let me know

Re: Site Notes App
A lot of our guys use iPads with the Apple Pencil. It’s like writing on paper and the iPad stays clipped to a belt or in a pouch. The other good thing is you can draw over a google image of your location if you’re outside, or over a floor plan if inside. I use a really old rugged tablet, more of a brick, with a windows journal app for writing.

Re: Site Notes App
We have built our own software that our teams use while scanning and taking pictures onsite.
It's a Java software that runs on tablet PC, and all the surveyors have their own tablet.
Here there are some screenshots of the app:
We can import background images, and add on top of them icons using different frame styles and colors.
Numbers are automatically increased by 1 every time one icon is added. Here you can see scanpositions (green circles), pictures (light blu squares) and targets (yellow squares). We can add notes to the single icon, that will be in the final report. We can also add scan connections while onsite. And label connections with text info. When back in the office, we can open the project on desktop PC and export a report useful for the registration process.
