So, I'm trying to figure out a way to achieve this. My higher ups are requesting a linear depiction of slab variance along a line (the line along which a glass partition will be placed), to illustrate where we will need how much fill, etc.
Does anyone have a method of creating this? My thought was to create a mesh along the line, and then create model views in autocad to show sections of that mesh along said line. I'm not sure if this is the most efficient however, and was just curious if anyone has had any experience in creating these type of drawings, and what solutions they found.
I am using SCENE, ReCap, CloudCompare, AutoCAD, Revit and Navis. I have a license for 3DS Max but I have no idea how to use it!
Thanks very much for any advice!

Re: Creating a section slice along a single line?
I would take a cross section where the glass will sit across in cloudcompare (my favourite program, so useful). Import a CAD solid to represent your window and maneuver it above the point cloud of the slab. Compute cloud to mesh distances, using the object as a reference. That will give you a scalar field on your points which represent the distance from the solid window object to the points themselves.
You can then slice up the cloud into smaller sections, say every inch or foot. Look at your SF display ranges, take the average (it shouldn't have that much variance if it's a flat concrete slab). You can also fit a statistical model on each section, and it will fit a Gaussian curve to your data, giving you a nice number (distance, or gap between glass and floor) to report.
If this is really confusing I can upload a quick video of what I'm talking about as well, shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

You can create a clipbox in Scene and then create an orthoimage from the cross section. Si Horton had a tutorial online somewhere and it should give you what you need.
I think you have a few options to do this.

Re: Creating a section slice along a single line?
The easiest way is using section tool in Revit. Import the recap file into Revit, draw a section line along the line you want and thats it.
I can walk you through during a short screen web share.
Cheers

Great guys, these are all excellent suggestions. Nothing over my head, all of these make sense to me. Thanks so much for the help, I don't know why I wasn't notified of your replies but I just saw them now.
Thanks again!

Hi,
Just saw this thread today as well.
All what you describe will also be available in 3dreshaper: meshing, importing cad, creating sections, computing deviations between a line and a section...
Let me know if you want to give it a try
